Mick Foley had a dream of becoming a professional wrestler and never gave up fighting his way to the top of the business he loved with un-stoppable determination. 
 

Mick's accomplishments in Professional Wrestling and as an Author, Actor, Commentator and Comedian are a tribute to his "Never Quit" attitude and an example for all men and women in all stages of life that if you can dream it, you can do it.

Pete Kaasa has wanted to be a wrestler for as long as he can remember.

Not merely a wrestler, but a professional wrestler.

Seventeen months ago the James Island native took his first major step in that direction when he began training at the Atlanta-based WWA4 pro wrestling facility.

Kaasa, whose daredevil style was compared by some company officials to that of TNA star AJ Styles, breezed through the school with flying colors.

He also developed a gimmick while there - a flashy character known as Pete Kaasanova - along with an impressive following.

But Kaasa realized that his ultimate goal - a spot in the big leagues of pro wrestling - would take more than a gimmick and a legion of supporters.

To that end, the 28-year-old took his talent, his hopes and his dreams to Ocala, Fla., home base for The Funking Conservatory, regarded as one of the finest wrestling schools in the country.

Former NWA world heavyweight champion Dory Funk Jr. and his wife, Marti, have run the facility since 1999 and have helped train some of the top stars in the business.

The list includes names like Kurt Angle, Edge, Christian, Jeff and Matt Hardy, Lita, Mickie James, Mark Henry, Chris Sabin, Christopher Daniels and Ted DiBiase.

Kaasa, a 2008 College of Charleston graduate, hopes to someday be mentioned among that elite group.

"It's already been a dream come true. Training with the legendary Dory Funk Jr. has definitely been a huge highlight for me in my wrestling career," says Kaasa. "To meet a man who has accomplished so much in the business I love and live for would be an honor in itself, but to actually receive his coaching is beyond words."

The lofty praise is well-deserved. Kaasa's teacher has an impeccable reputation in the wrestling profession.

Funk became the youngest NWA world champion in history when, at the age of 28, he won the NWA crown in 1969. His 4 1/2-year run as champ is considered one of the greatest title reigns ever.

His father, Dory Funk Sr., was a top star and West Texas promoter until his death in 1973 at the age of 54. His brother, Terry Funk, also held the NWA world title during the '70s.

Kaasa says Funk encourages his students and pushes them to get better. He also teaches them everything about the business and what it means to be a professional wrestler.

What has impressed Kaasa the most, he says, is Funk's humility and laid-back nature.

"It amazes me to see how humble and kind he is. He makes every one of his wrestlers and students feel important, complimenting them after live shows, matches, promos and practice, while still maintaining his leadership role, giving suggestions and constructive criticism."

Funk has been equally impressed with Kaasa's skill set and innate talent.

"Pete is a fabulous athlete. His style of work reminds me of a young Dynamite Kid when I first met him many years ago," says Funk.

"There's no one sweeter than Pete. When he gets in the ring, he is amazing," echoes Marti Funk. "He is a gym rat and looks fantastic. Pete is a very impressive athlete."

Diverse background
Kaasa, whose father Gary was a wrestling champ in the U.S. military in 1970 during the Vietnam War, brings a wide spectrum of athleticism to the table.

He has trained with wrestling All-Americans Marc Hoffer, Ryan Lang and NCAA national competitor/MMA fighter Chris McNally. He is well versed in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and submission wrestling, and captured first place in the South Carolina state championships and third in the Arnold Classics/Relson Gracie World's BJJ Championships in Columbus, Ohio.

The following year he won first place in both the state competition and the Relson Gracie World's BJJ Championships for the blue belt division, and placed fourth in the open submission grappling division.

"I saw amateur wrestling written all over him," Funk says of his initial sessions with Kaasa. "I wondered where Pete's natural wrestling skills came from. I knew he had to have grown up like me. My father used to get me in the garage and stretch me out a little."

Kaasa's athletic accomplishments, however, don't stop there.

The solidly built, 190-pound workout fanatic also competed in gymnastics at an early age and is a championship-caliber surfer.

"He's one of the finest gymnasts I have seen," adds Funk.

School of hard knocks
Students at Funk's training camp go through a litany of drills and workouts, and put on a show without an audience on a weekly basis.

"We tell them to work the same as if they were in front of 16,000 people, millions on television or hundreds at The Funking Conservatory, or 15 if you're wrestling in front of your teammates or just performing for an agent," says Funk.

A bigger show is held monthly featuring various established wrestling stars working with the younger talent. Pro wrestling great and longtime WWE agent Jerry Brisco is scheduled to make a visit to the school next month, followed by a special appearance by hardcore icon Mick Foley in July.

Matches are held at the BANG! TV Soundstage where bouts are filmed, edited and used as training tools.

Training sessions include watching individual matches and promos from the previous day, and then having Funk critique the performances and offer suggestions.

There is, of course, the physical part of the program - warm-ups and drills to get the blood flowing, some light bumps, running through various spots and working on signature moves. A short match and promo typically wrap up the sessions.

Funk, who along with brother Terry was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009, says he prides himself on the school's strong safety program.

"We work very, very hard on safety with our kids. They don't realize it, but you can get seriously hurt in professional wrestling. Our main objective is to see that these kids are taken care of and are safe in what they're doing."

Funk, noting the spate of concussion-related injuries in sports, says blows to the back of the head aren't allowed.

"All (full-contact) sports are going through this, but concussions are a real problem. We don't allow anybody dropping someone backwards to the back of their head. Safety is big for us."

Funk, whose school is the official American training center for All Japan Pro Wrestling, also emphasizes performance and technique.

"We work real hard on techniques. We market our kids, but they also need to market themselves. Video is a big part of their training. Television is critical to wrestling."

Kaasa says he also has learned from watching tapes of classic wrestlers and matches.

His coach's series of near-mythical bouts with the late Jack Brisco during the early '70s is regarded as one of the greatest programs in wrestling history.

"Dory tells me to watch how these wrestling legends and pioneers can get a crowd into the match with simple wrestling holds and working them as they should be worked - an almost forgotten skill in wrestling today."

Competitive business
Kaasa realizes that taking it to the next level will require an extreme level of dedication.

"This is a very competitive business," says Funk. "It's fabulous what's available today for the people who do make it. But it's very competitive, and the people who are there want to stay there. They don't want to be replaced."

Those coveted spots, he says, are hard to come by.

"It's also hard to come by a starring role in a movie. But that's what they are. They are stars."

Funk, however, is quick to point out that opportunities do exist for those who are talented and for those who want it badly enough and are willing to make sacrifices along the way.

"Guys working for WWE are making lots of money, as well as a few of them in TNA and some in Japan. But there are openings and they are available. There are a lot of guys playing college football who don't make it to the pros. The opportunities are there (in the wrestling business), and the rewards are so big."

Kaasa is one of a number of young, aspiring athletes currently training under Funk. The students come from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Shane Chung, the school's Chinese champion, was valedictorian of his high school. Johnny Magnum, who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, is regarded as the team spiritual leader;

Texas State University product Cory "Wild" Weston is a superb athlete who Funk says is a team leader.

Ben Hyman, who performs as Mighty Vesuvius, is a former hockey player who also works as a model.

Jeremy "Rock Star" Spillers is a Rod Stewart look-alike and tours with his band on the side. Brian "Hot Shot" Davis, says Funk, is a natural heel with a flair for the dramatic.

The group also includes a pair of talented ladies. Funk calls Claudia "The Claw" Reiff, a University of Miami grad, one of the best referees in the business as well as a skilled worker in the ring. Hollywood Heather has been an actress and athlete since the age of 3, and at six feet tall combines beauty and skill in the ring and on the mic.

A television product
A number of things have changed about the wrestling business since Funk and his contemporaries rode roughshod through the territories during the '60s and '70s. Today's version of pro wrestling is known as sports entertainment, with an emphasis placed on entertainment.

Aspiring young wrestlers are trained to project an appealing image as well as polish their mat skills.

No longer do pro wrestlers work six or seven matches a week, as Funk did for most of his career. The near-nightly performances in front of different crowds gave wrestlers of that era valuable training. And although demanding, there was no better way to /

New Japan Pro Wrestling will celebrate it痴 40th Anniversary in Tokyo痴 Korakuen Hall on 3-4-12. My congratulations to New Japan Pro Wrestling - 徹medeto Goziamasu. 

It is also 40 years since Antonio Inoki walked out on an NWA World Championship Match with Me in Osaka Japan at 5:30 in the evening the night of the show.This was my 3rd trip to Japan having wrestled Antonio Inoki to consecutive 1 hour time limit draws in 1970 and 1971. Word was that Inoki would take the belt that night in a shoot. Then at 5:30 in the evening word came that Inoki had backed out of the match and that Seiji Sakaguchi would take his place challenging for the NWA World Title. Inoki left the company (Japan Pro Wrestling) and joined a new company, New Japan Pro Wrestling. Now 40 years later on the Anniversary of Inoki backing out of a return match I offer a challenge to Antonio Inoki to step into the ring to settle the issue in Japan or right here on !BANG! TV.

As we walked the ramp to the ring, Kiniski was in my ear, "Listen Kid, Your father is up there looking down on us right now." 

I was proud to have Gene Kiniski in my corner. Gene was trained by my father, Dory Funk Sr. and always gave me good advice in the wrestling business. Gene would say, "Listen Kid, When you show up at the Arena, Wear a coat and tie." "As world Champion, you have an image to live up to. You should command respect. You are the champion and every where you go you represent the Wrestling Business and the National Wrestling Alliance."

The most demanding match of my career was a 1 hour draw against Kiniski in Amarillo, Texas in my first year in the business. Kiniski had me in a top body scissors and cross face. As he stretched me out, he said, "Hey Kid, Your mother is on the way to the ring to help you."

It was Kiniski who saved by career in professional wrestling when I tore my knee in Vancouver BC, showing up 1 hour early to tape my knee every night.

In the introduction, Gene Kiniski expresses in no uncertain terms his opinion of NWA vs AWA.

I first met Nick Bockwinkel in Australia where we had many competitive matches then Nick came to Amarillo to work for my father, Dory Funk Sr. before going on to the AWA where he became their World Champion.

Commentators were - Larry Zbysko, a former AWA World Champion and WCW's Tony Shiavone.

Special Guest doing color for the match one of the all time greats and one of the toughest opponents I have ever faced Johnny Valentine.

The bell rang to start the match. Kiniski said, "Alright Kid, throw him to the floor and I will kick the Hell out of him and throw him back into the ring to you."

I said, "Please Gene leave the match to me. Gene couldn't help himself and at one point entered the ring and gave Bockwinkel one size 15 boot to the mid-section before the referee could get him back on the floor -

My Father, Dory Funk Sr. and I were working on the terrace on the Flying Mare Ranch in Umbarger, Texas that carried water to the pond at the bottom of the hill. I stopped for a moment and told my father that I would like to become a professional wrestler.

 
I listened a lot that morning on the Flying Mare Ranch as Dad told me about the rewards and challenges of becoming a professional wrestler. Among the many things I remember about that day, Dad said that professional wrestling is the best exercise you can do. He said, "If you take proper care of yourself, the exercise, conditioning and coordination you receive from Professional wrestling can give you a good body and long and healthy life.

 
Dad also said, "Professional wrestling can give you and your family a good life so you must protect and defend the credibility of your business.

 
Dad's words have proven to be true.

In Dory Funk Jr.'s Corner - Who was the best?

 
Not an easy question to answer.

 
It seemed like my opponents were at their best challenging for the NWA World Championship.

 
Jack Brisco was the best more times than any other as I faced Jack Brisco for the NWA World Championship more than 200 times over 4 1/2 years as champion. Jacks amateur wrestling skills were the best.

 
John Valentine was the one of the toughest. Most memorable was a match with John Valentine in Houston, Texas. I won the 1st fall, John won the 2nd and I had the advantage as time ran out. I asked for 5 more minutes to finish him off. In the overtime, John turned it around and had the advantage and asked for another 5 minute extension. I refused accepting the draw and left Houston with the NWA World Championship to return again, and again, and again.

 
In Japan, my best matches were against Giant Baba, Great Muta, Antonio Inoki and Jumbo Tsuruta. Jumbo (Jumbo trained with me for pro-wrestling in Amarillo, Texas).

 
I may have learned the most wrestling Manchester England's Billy Robinson in the Calgary Territory in Canada. (7 one hour matches in 7 days throughout the territory) I finally I got a victory over Billy in Red Deer Alberta Canada on the 8th match in 8 days.

 
Outstanding opponents were Lou Thesz in St. Louis, Gene Kiniski in St. Louis, Wahoo McDaniel in Houston, Lord Alfred Hayes in Amarillo, The Original Sheik in Detroit, Dick The Bruiser in St. Louis.

 
Truth is as NWA World Champion, I faced so many great wrestlers in would be impossible to name the best.

 
In Macon Georgia, Bob Armstrong and I drew more fans to the Macon Coliseum than Elvis who was there the week before. Bob and I were proud of the accomplishment.

--The Dory Funk Jr. return to St. Louis, which if you noticed here, got a ton of local publicity, drew a sellout of 300 fans last night in East Carondelet, IL: (Funking Conservatory Athletes in Bold - Officiating Funking Conservatory Matches, Claudia "The Claw" Reiff)  Leo Cristinia b Johnny Romano, Chase King b Wayne Mitchell, LMC & Johnny Courageous b Tony Raze & Max Archer, Jose Salinas b Jayson Falcone, Chris Harges b Waco-DQ, Mad Dog Madetzke b Fuschichu Masuku, Luke Spencer b Bobby Dee, Dave Vaughn DCOR Big Texan, Dory Funk Jr. & Chas Wesson & Gary Jackson b Ron Powers & Kevin X & Sean Vincent.  Dory worked 7-8 minutes in the trios match, doing simple but effective spots with Powers and Vincent, and pinned Powers in the third fall of a 2/3 fall match.  The third fall winning crowd pop was described by Larry Matysik as the biggest he's heard at a local indie show and to give Powers a lot of credit as a heel along with the crowd being there to see Dory Funk Jr. still perform.

Funk's Corner - NWA World Championship in St. Louis / Dory Funk Jr. vs Baron Von Raschke

Baron Von Raschke worked the "Sly Foreigner" part claiming to be from Germany, wearing the Iron Cross, doing the Goose Step and using the Brain Claw for a finish. The real Jim Raschke may have been even more imposing. Jim Raschke was a two time All American Amateur Wrestler from University of Nebraska.
 
Baron Von Raschke began his charge for the NWA World Title Match with a victory over Dory Funk Jr. in a six man elimination tag team match on KPLR's Wrestling from the Chase on January 30th, 1970. Dory Funk Jr., Jack Brisco and Tommy Martin vs Baron Von Raschke, Crimson Knight and Roger Kirby. Brisco beat Kirby, Knight beat Martin and Raschke beat Funk. The 20 minute time limit expired leaving Brisco against Raschke and Knight.
 
February 20th, 1970, Kiel Auditorium (att. 11,077 Sellout) NWA World Champion, Dory Funk Jr. beat Baron Von Raschke 2/3 falls. Whipper Billy Watson was the Special Referee.
 
Outside the ring I remember in the mid 80's, Marti and I drinking Coors draft beer with Dick Murdoch and Jim Raschke. Raschke kept making a toast to Marti and I, then finishing off his beer and slamming his glass to the table each time breaking the slender pedestal off his  glass then ordering another in a new glass. And another in a new glass And another in a new glass etc. etc.

Funk's Corner - NWA World Championship in St. Louis Dory Funk Jr. vs Dick The Bruiser

On December 5th 1969, Dick The Bruiser was a huge babyface as He won a Texas Death Match over Black Jack Lanza with Bobby Heenan in Lanza's corner.

 

January 9, 1970 Kiel Auditorium, (att. 11,434 Sellout) Dory Funk Jr, NWA World Champion won over Dick The Bruiser. Bruiser took the first fall and appeared to have a three count on Funk for a second straight fall before referee Joe Schoenberger saw Bruiser using the ropes. The referee reversed the decision and disqualified Bruiser for the second fall. Bruiser went berserk, punched Shoengerger, hit Funk with a chair and was then disqualified for the third fall and the match. Afterward, Athletic Commissioner Eddie Davidson suspended Bruiser indefinitely.

 

(Larry Matysik's thoughts - Fans in 2007 and 2008 talk about the mixed reaction to John Cena, but this one was completely unique. Dory Funk Jr. was a favorite, and The Bruiser definitely was the "People's Choice," especially after his fued against Lanza and Heenan. The crowd was totally split, in a constant uproar, and completely beside themselves when Dick's outburst led to his disqualification).

We have received words from our friend Herb Simmons that Dory Funk JR, a former World Champion, WWE Hall of Famer and one of the most respected wrestlers of all time will be making his way to St Louis on May 20, 21.Fans at MMWA

SICW in East Carondelet last night heard first hand from Larry Matysik that Herb Simmons has signed former world champion Dory Funk Jr to be at the next show on Saturday May 21st. If that wasn$BCU(B enough, Herb has scheduled a meet and greet the night before on Friday the 20th at the community center. For the price of a ticket the fans will be able to meet the former champion and attend the matches the next night.

In spite of some name calling, all goes well until Claudia "The Claw" Reiff (Champion) points out to Radiant Rain (Challenger) that she has erred in her name placement in signing the contract which results in a spontaneous "Cat Fight" that is only stopped with Radiant Rain's mysterious attraction to "The Bug Person" Arachna Man.
 

Now on Premium !BANG! TV a 3 Way Tag Team, 6 person match between Los Latinos, Jose Salinas and Leo Cristiani vs Heartless, Luke Spencer and Mad-Dog Madetzke vs Damien Steel and Jayson Falcone. !BANG! TV Report - They Loved to Fight

 
During my playing days at West Texas State University at the athletic dormitory, Buffalo Courts, my room mate Jim Woods (Quarter Back from Claude, Texas) and I shared restroom facilities with Franklin Thrasher (Linebacker from Matador, Texas and Tommy Lovelace (Linebacker from Farewell, Texas).
 

Lovelace and Thrasher loved to fight. My roommate, Jim Woods was a great quarterback and definitely a "ladies Man," but that is another story.

 
Thrasher and Loveless loved to fight and often would go out on the town looking for trouble but their tough reputation had grown so much often they could find nobody to fight.
 

On many occasions they would come in late at night with clothes torn, waking me up laughing because they could find nobody to fight so they had fought each other.
 

We have two wrestlers in the Funking Conservatory, Damien Steele and Karl "Mad-Dog" Madetzke who remind me much of Thrasher and Lovelace. "They love to fight."

!BANG! TV Report - Ric Flair vs Dory Funk Jr.

 
During my days as Booker for Eddie Graham in the Florida Territory, Ric Flair had just finished a world heavyweight championship match against Hacksaw, Butch Reed. The match went to a 60 minute draw. At the end of the match Flair was bleeding from the forehead so much that all his blond hair had turned red.

 
There were two dressing rooms at the top of the stairs in the old Tampa Armory, one on each side of the stairs. (One for the Bad Guys and one for the Good Guys)

 
The match was over and I spoke to Hacksaw congratulating him on a great wrestling match then walked to the other dressing room. As I entered the door, Ric Flair and Eddie Graham were sitting each on a folding steel chair talking.

 
You would think this was two normal people having a business conversation except for the fact that Ric Flair was dripping blood from a cut in his forehead and his hair was crimson red.

 
I looked at them both and said, "Ric, Thank you. Nobody gives more for this business than you do."

 
Ric Flair looked up at me and said, "It's my job."

Sabu was trained in professional wrestling by his Uncle, The Original Sheik, Eddie Farhat.

 
Blast From the Past
Dory Funk Jr. vs The Original Sheik, Fair Park Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas
The match began with aggressive wrestling by the Sheik. I fought back and he went for a foreign object in his Arabian boot. (Toes turned up on the tips for walking in the desert sands.) The fans were ready to riot. They wanted to kill The Sheik. I got the foreign object from The Sheik and busted him with it. He bled profusely. The crowd went into a frenzy,
I knocked The Sheik to the mat and picked up his right leg for the spinning toe hold. I turned once, twice, and three times. With the Sheik flat on his back and the fans absolutely sure he was going to give up, from out of his hands came a ball of fire. It engulfed my face. I could see orange through my closed eyelids and feel the heat as it singed my hair. I could smell the stench of burning all around me.

 
Referee, Jack Cain immediately called for the bell disqualifying The Sheik. The match was over, but I was writhing in pain on the floor. Referee, Jack Cain called for help. Ricky Romero came to the ring with water and towels and they helped me to the dressing room.

!BANG! TV Report - LA to San Francisco with Dory Funk, Dick Murdoch and Bob Hope

 
The stewardess in the first class cabin said, to Dick Murdoch and I, "Fellows, I have been ordered by the senior flight attendant not to serve you any more beer.

 
 It was only a short flight from Los Angeles to San Francisco. We were celebrating having just completed the wrestling scenes for the movie, Paradise Alley. The next day we were working for Promoter Roy Shires at the annual Battle Royal at the Cow Palace. We were now movie stars. (Our parts combined in the movie totaled about a minute)

 
We didn't notice who was sleeping covered up in the seat next to us until we landed. I got my jacket from the overhead rack and turned to leave. All of a sudden, I was nose to nose with Bob Hope. I said, "Bob, Bob Hope." Meet my friend Dick Murdoch. Dick put his arm around Mr. Hope's shoulder and said, "Bob, We have just broken into the movies.

 
Dick's eyes were red and the smell of beer and potato chips permeated the air. I said yeah, we just finished staring in Paradise Alley. Be sure and watch for it. Dick invited him to join us for a beer. About that time the door opened and all we saw of Bob Hope after that was his rear end hurrying down the concourse on the way to his limousine and as far away from us as he could get.

Dory Funk's Corner - Television is the Life Blood of Professional Wrestling

 
I remember watching Professional Wrestling from the Marigold Arena in Chicago on television with commentator Jack Brickhouse. I watched Lou Thesz, Walter Palmer (Originator of the Spinning Toe Hold) Indian Chief, Don Eagle and Dory Funk Sr.

 
In those days the only way to preserve live video was a method called Kinescope whereby live video images were transferred to 16 or 35 millimeter film. Kinescope could be reproduced and bicycled to major cities for television programming, professional wrestling being hugely popular.

 
Wrestlers who were featured on Wrestling from the Marigold were perceived as stars and were in demand throughout the country.

 
With the invention of video tape for network television, Jules Strongbow in Los Angles produced a quality national television show out of Los Angles featuring Lou Thesz, Wilbur Snyder and a father and son tag team, Gino and Leo Garibaldi. I remember the winner of the main event received a wrist watch presented by Jules at the end of the show.

 
In the "Glory Days" of the National Wrestling Alliance 33 territories produced their own Television Shows featuring their own Wrestling Superstars.

 
Other promotions followed with national television shows including World Class (Dallas), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), Eddie Mansfield's IWF (First Wrestling Television Produced at Universal Studios), Eddie Einhorn's IWA (Owner of the Chicago White Sox), TNA Wrestling and the Longest Running Episodic Television Show, Monday Night Raw and Smackdown.

Dory Funk's Corner - The First Battle of the Night - Funk vs Murdoch

 

Dory Funk Sr. vs Frankie Hill Murdoch:
Blood was streaming from my father's head as he tried to regain his balance and come to his feet. A size twelve shoe caught him flush in the face knocking him down again. Dory Funk Sr. tried to fight back but his efforts were futile as big Frank Murdoch continued his ruthless assault.

 

As I watched this beating take place, every blow was as if it were happening to me and every time my father tried to fight back I was fighting with him inside my heart. I looked at my brother Terry. Tears streamed down his face. He was out of his seat and on the way to my father's side. Mother reached and grabbed him by his arm. I could see her give him the squeeze and pull him back to his seat. I was only 10 years old and Terry was 7, Mother was the boss.

 

My father swung wildly at his opponent, the man they billed as the "Fabulous Texan." I twisted in my chair hoping and praying that Dad would not get hurt and could come back for victory.

 

Frank Murdoch slipped behind and reached for the sleeper hold. My father charged the turnbuckle in the corner of the ring. Murdoch crashed face first in to the corner and fell back into the ring. Dad reached to wipe his face so he could see better. is hand was covered in blood. He just stared at his bloody hand. My heart jumped and I nearly fell off my chair. I knew when Dad saw the blood he would go wild and so did the four thousand fans jammed into the Amarillo Sports Arena. They were going crazy cheering my father on to beat the hell out of Frank Murdoch.

 

Murdoch was back on his feet, but hesitated when he saw the look in dad's eyes. The crowd at the sports arena was going crazy. They knew when Dory Funk saw blood, something was going to happen soon. Murdoch moved in close. My father swung with all he had. You could hear the punch land and see the perspiration fly as dad connected with a right to Murdoch's chin. Dory Funk picked up the 6' 3" 250 pound Murdoch high over his head and slammed him to the mat to a roar of approval from the fans. Now Funk had Murdoch pinned in the corner landing blow after blow. There was so much excitement and so much noise that he didn't hear the referee telling him to stop it because Murdoch was caught in the ropes. In an effort to pull them apart, the referee grabbed Funk from behind. In a fit of anger, Dory turned and blasted the referee with a forearm to the chin.

 

It was all over, Dory Funk was disqualified and Frankie Hill Murdoch was the winner of the match.

 

Now the biggest fight of the night was about to begin.
